A complex bend and build. 
using locally grown Essex Oak, sections of the curved head were steamed then formed into shape. Due to the thickness of the timber, the curve had to be laminated as well, using Epoxy glue. 

The wedged-hook-scarf joint is taken from Japanese methods.
